Introduction to Criminal Justice

Students are given an overview of the field of criminal justice in the context of our social, cultural, political and economic system. This course introduces students to the history of and social response to crime and examines the origins of and fundamental concepts associated with law enforcement and corrections. The structure and functions of State and Federal courts are reviewed and current issues in criminal justice are explored. CRJ 101 provides law enforcement and correctional administration students a solid foundation for future coursework, research, and practice in the field. It is an excellent opportunity for interested students in other fields of study to familiarize themselves with the criminal justice system and its far-ranging impact on society.
