Introduction to the Baltic Sea Region
Description:
This is a 3 credit course which will introduce students to the Baltic Sea Region of northern Europe, with special emphasis on the three Baltic states: Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The Baltics are countries where geography has been extremely important in determining the history, politics, and culture of the region. In this course students will study elementary concepts involving all aspects of the cultural geography of the region (historical, political, social, and economic). It will also include a study of modern political organizations of Europe (NATO, EU, etc.) and how they will affect the Baltic world as it serves its history role: "A Bridge Between East and West."
