Associate's Degree Programs

Information Services Technology

Subject Categories: Computer & Technology

Degree: Associate of Applied Science Degree

Total Credit Hours: 60

Institution: College of Southern Maryland

Program Description:

The rapid expansion of computer technology into the workplace has created the need for specialists who are both technically proficient and supportive of nontechnical end users. Such specialists provide hardware and software support which facilitates increased end user control of the computing power, often by interconnecting multiple computer systems to create an organization-wide network. Training and problem solving are critical support functions which involve human resource development skills.

This Information Services Technology degree program is as "people oriented" as it is "machine oriented." Students will develop strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills which will enable them to support and train computer users in a variety of employment settings. Technical proficiency and problem solving skills will be developed through the study of micro/mainframe integrated systems, telecommunications administration, system analysis, PC troubleshooting, and specific computer applications. Students will select one elective from a professional area of interest and will participate in at least one cooperative education experience.
